Review Motivational Interviewing (MI) and transform how you counsel patients who struggle with unhealthy lifestyle habits. This course will focus on how one can apply MI to discussions about healthy eating and exercise. Click on “Introduction to Motivational Interviewing” below to get started.
MI was first developed as a way of counseling people with alcohol addiction, and it now is used in many other clinical settings. In a meta-analysis of eleven randomized, controlled trials, MI was found to be a fairly effective intervention to help to lose weight. When MI is paired with effective action planning, and the motivated patient is referred to a weight loss group or nutritionist, the interaction between physician and patient can be life-changing.
