Example Video #2: Importance and Confidence Scales


Here’s another example of Motivational Interviewing, this time with a Contemplative patient.

Notice that the physician identifies that the patient already knows it is important for his health to lose weight, and doesn’t have to waste time convincing him that this is important.

The patient’s barrier to change is actually feasibilty. He has limited time to make healthy lifestyle changes, and the physician spends her time more effectively by suggesting ways the patient can get help in caring for his sick brother.
